There’s no need to fat-shame the poor Challengers - they’re just as Sergio made them.

The Mallards is 102.95 British long tons/ 115.3 American short tons,
Overall 165 British long tons/184.8 American short tons.
I like that the Mallard’s sisters are the
4464 Bittern,
6007 Sir Nigel Gresley,
60009 Union of South Africa,
60008 Dw ight D. Eisenhower and the
60010 Do minion of Canada.

I assumed that was the case, but presumably they still have Germans in the important roles, I can’t imagine they’d trust the Brits to be able to run a railroad on their own.

Maybe, but still a good bit lighter than a UP Challenger

They are the best looking steam trains ever. Nigel Grassley makes sense as he designed it , and Bittern makes sense, guessing the others were named after WWII.

I saw 4489 last week!I was impressed by it’s design, it’s very 30's. Maybe because it’s blue, but it kinda looks like it was made by Bugatti

Yeah I always thought that the colors and lines were definitely inspired by Bugatti. Have no idea if it’s true, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Per this, Bugatti’s cars could not have inspired it...
...but Bugatti’s petrol trains could have.
And about those: http://www.bugatti-trust.co.uk/trains-boats-planes/bugatti-trains/
Yes, he just used the engines out of the Royale.
